“SOKA” meaning VALUE (Japanese origin)

Below is a bit about me and how I came to realize my most recent dream: creating in color. I’m a young artist at 62, and I’m so inspired to communicate and express my deepest emotions and visions on canvas, in the hopes that you might find a piece that stirs you in some way.

Who I Am :
I’m all over the place: a textbook Gemini. I’m an abstract painter, a Buddhist chanter, a truth-
teller, a yogini , a teacher, and recently, a protester. I’m also a “mothership”, wifey, daughter, Grammy, dog mama, and friend to many.

What I’ve Done :
Studied abstract and oil painting with two amazing California artists, taught piano, voice and yoga for several decades, traveled to a bunch of countries, soloed professionally in classical,
choral and contemporary venues, announced on FM radio, served as a singing waiter, dropped out of an opera masters degree to write and record pop songs, directed several student musicals, and starred in musicals and plays in my youth .

Where I’m From:
Born in Kansas, raised in Chicago, graduated In Austin, painted in Minneapolis, taught in San Diego, studied on Sicily, had my daughter in Ventura, mothered in Port Hueneme, taught in Camarillo, found my soulmate in Phoenix, summered at Oxnard Shores, and painted at the shore and in the desert, until I had enough pieces to set up this website!

Where I’m Headed:
There’s no telling with this Gemini, but I will continue to explore creating, travel, yoga teaching, playing and singing for fun, grand mothering, hiking and biking, beach combing, chanting and deepening my connection to family and friends. I’m full of gratitude.
